Chii - Waiting for You by meadow-rue Chii - Waiting for You by meadow-rue
Chii wearing a Houmongi kimono. The kimono patterns took a while, but were SO much fun to paint! :3

I did wonder, at one point, if the finished picture would just end up looking horrendously garish with all the clashing colours, but somehow, on a kimono, colours that usually look disgusting together, work...

The flower things on the floor are Kanzashi - Japanese hair ornaments.

0.1 black Copic Multiliner, Copic sketch markers (+airbrush). Watercolour and metallic gold and silver acrylic paint details.

Chii (c) CLAMP

nice picture..
but you are not that good in perspective arent you..^^
meadow-rue Featured By Owner May 22, 2009  Professional Digital Artist
Would have been nice if you could have been a little more constructive... ¬_¬;
But in this drawing no, the perspective of the background is way off. I don't think it's that I'm particularly bad at perspective, but I didn't plan this picture out at all well and sort of... drew myself in to a corner.
Jun-Akasaka Featured By Owner May 23, 2009
but you do could see that the upper half perspective is man point view..
and the below part is a little bird eye view..
but relax..
it still looks pretty..
and i love it.. :D
keep up the good work.. :smooch:

*Steals Chii's clothes thus causing Hideki to have one of his nosebleed sessions at a naked Chii* :XD: I love those little wa-loli yukata/kimonos. Would love to own several of my own except my figure doesn't even come close to the sort that would be flattered by such tiny feminine articles of clothing (lets just say 'hefty' describes it fairly well) and thus I can only dream :tears: Damn Japan and their gorgeous fashions for people with figures of 12 year olds :shakefist:

My word D-P, I couldn't color something that amazing even with Photoshop. You're so talented.

I'm quite sure you get a lot of comments like that, but it's so true.

I am curious though, what you like the most about this piece... I was excited to hear you say it was fun, but I kinda' want hear more. I can tell you put a lot into this, is there some reason you chose to draw this piece? More than a whim I mean.

Forgive me if I'm not making sense or being a bother, I just got all talkative and eager to know more about ya'.

^___^ No, that's fine!

I found my old tubes of watercolour paints under my bed when I was clearing out my room. I'd been wanting to do a a piece of kimono artwork since I got my airbrush and air compressor, but was still trying to figure out the best way I could put the patterns on... I was planning to use stencils and airbrush them on, but that would have taken ages and been really fiddley. I'd not considered painting them on until until I found my paints, so I ordered some new metallic paints too.
I chose Chii as the model because, well, she's so cute and always fun to draw, plus she makes a picture interesting to look at because CLAMP gave her such a lovely design. I love replacing her little pink and white hair-thingies with other decoration!
Umm... I suppose I like the way the kimono patterns turned out most. I wasn't sure if they would work or look good in the end, but I really like them. :3
SilverSugar Featured By Owner Oct 28, 2008  Hobbyist General Artist

That's really cool. How long did this take exactly? Oh, and what did you draw it on?

Hee hee, Chii is always adorable. I've tried drawing her in the past, but I had a lot of trouble. Hm, I should try again now that I seem to be better at drawing lots of hair.

Have we had this conversation before? *looks around*

Sorry about that... Anyway, the Kimono is gorgeous. Really great~! For some reason my favorite thing about it is the obi. Then again I love basically anything interesting and green. The flowers are fantastic though, they look so cute and clean. Is there any sort of trick to drawing flowers?
meadow-rue Featured By Owner Oct 30, 2008  Professional Digital Artist
Um, I can't remember how long it took... I drew it on normal 80gsm printer paper. No trick for drawing the flowers. ^_^ It's just paint applied with a very fine brush.
SilverSugar Featured By Owner Oct 30, 2008  Hobbyist General Artist
Wow. Printer paper? Really? That's even more impressive.

I'd have thought the colors would have bled more or something on that.

Then again you're magic, so yeah. *laugh*

Wow. This...looks...awesome.
It looks so smooth that it looks as if you had done this on Photoshop. The details are BEAUTIFUL, and the only thing I have to say about it is that her face looks a bit off from her hair.
Otherwise, it's just gorgeous.
