With everything that's been happening lately, one thing after the other, it feels like the world is going to pieces...

A terrible 6.3 earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand caused widespread damage and killed around 180 two weeks ago. Across Libya and other parts of the Middle East people continue to fight for their democracy against crazy dictators with many casualties, some caught in the crossfire, not even involved with the politics.
...And now Japan.

I'm sure by now most of you will know about the massive 8.9 earthquake that shook Japan on Friday - Japan's biggest earthquake since records began. The death toll from the ensuing tsunami is estimated to be over 3000, with well over 10,000 people still missing, many from the seaside town of Minamisanriku, which was swept away almost completely by the wave.
Prime Minister Kan Naoto is calling it 'Japan's biggest disaster since World War II' and seeing the footage of the destruction it's not hard to see why. Strong aftershocks are still being felt in the country even now and several of their nuclear power stations are in a dangerous way. Nuclear leakage is probable and of the people fleeing from the surrounding area, many have no where to go.

Japan in particular is in need of aid and has called for international help, so if you feel you can donate even a small amount, I'm sure it will help. The speed of the rescue operations within the next few day are going to be critical to save lives so I'm posting link to both The Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). They are both international medical humanitarian organizations and are non-governmental, non-religious and non-discriminatory.

Alternately, Americans and Canadians can text donate to The Red Cross for the Japanese Tsunami appeal.

America: Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10
Canadia: Text REDCROSS to 30333 to donate $10

I only hope that the people that still have access to the Internet can see that the world is thinking about them and wishing that we could do more to help.

Oh how completely awful. I'm so sorry! It feels terrible to have to hear about these things happening and being so far away... there's so little active help we can give ourselves. I feel useless, but I wanted to do something to show, at the very least, I was thinking of everyone.
